Head Coach Announcement – Edward Sun
March 17, 2024

Scarborough Rugby Football Club is thrilled to announce the commitment of the new Senior Head Coach, Edward (Ed) Sun to the staff list for 2024. The Scarborough Aces Senior team competes in the Ontario Women’s League (OWL) and placed fourth overall in the regular and post-season competition hosted by Rugby Ontario in 2023.

As the club athletes began to prepare themselves for the upcoming 2024 OWL competition, they were on the hunt for a dedicated and talented coach to take them further in their second year competing in the league. There is no doubt that with over 35 years of experience with rugby in Canada, Ed can guide the talented Scarborough-based players to their goals this summer while returning to his roots of coaching Women’s rugby players.

Ed is coming off a long-term stint guiding a Toronto-based rugby club but has a strong personal connection to his new coaching region. He proudly states, “I’m from Scarborough and still in Scarborough – if they had a team in Scarborough years ago, I would have joined”.

Sun is most excited about building a lasting relationship with Scarborough RFC to help his daughter grow into a sport that relies heavily on team play as well as having roles and responsibilities within a supportive environment. Our newly formed rugby club, established in 2021, has a strong focus on safe sports which allows young women and girls to courageously expand their rugby and social skills in an inclusive space.

We’d like to acknowledge Megan Pakulis and Holly Donaghy, our previous coaches, for their dedication. On-field Captain and former player-coach Pakulis shares what opportunity a fresh set of eyes will do for the program. “Eddie is going to bring the club to new heights and will be huge in maintaining the natural competitiveness the Aces hold. Eddie’s experiences coaching a university women’s program, winning the Marshall Cup with the men’s Scottish, and as a rugby dad to his own daughters is exactly the type of coach this team will excel under. We are all looking forward to a new season with Ed leading the way” Megan exclaims.

Developing a 2s XV senior team will be key to the club’s continued success. On the radar next for the eager leadership is to acquire an Assistant Coach to complement the program. Ed Sun is on the hunt for someone who will be as mutually supportive of growing the Aces talent, as well as organizing and executing some of the training sessions or game day preparations.
